SWSC Frosbite Race 1
Four boats and five sailors showed up to brave cool temperatures and threatening rain to break the ice for the 2016 sailing season. Three races were run on an impromptu course utilizing existing markers on the lake (the water is cold especially when setting and retrieving marks). Normal winter lake levels would have made this course impossible but, thanks to all the rain we have had, the lake is up to full pool. The first race featured strong but steady (for lake Allatoona) winds. They were strong enough to encourage some reefing for the 2nd race which, as predicted by Murphy's law, had lighter winds causing slippers to take out reefs. The 3 race again had higher winds and our only instances of sunshine and rain.....both at the same time. Hope you can come join us for the next race!
